I wonder if Moana's success is also noticeable on VOD and on DVD/Blu-Rays too or if it's just a streaming success. It would stand to reason that since it's so heavily watched on Disney+, the sales of Blu-Ray and DVDs of the film are "cannibalized" but I don't know.
Interesting question. DVD/BR sales at the time were good but not stand out as far as I remember. Obviously the film did well to begin with but it's the slow, consistent burn of success that's been most remarkable. Like have DVD/BR sales maintained year after year when all others decayed? Thought perhaps impacted by Disney's vault strategy on this format.
I think it’s pretty clear now that they did fuck it up by not getting Lin-Manuel to do the music again. Its songs are completely forgettable, I think. Although it’s hard to be completely sure until you’ve heard them 50 times.
